The Waste Review
The Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) is currently carrying out a review of all aspects of waste policy and delivery in England. Go Real were keen to ensure that disposable nappies were considered under that review and so submitted a Call to Evidence stating our concerns and some suggested solutions.
To gain support for our Call to Evidence we wrote to all MPs and consequently Austin Mitchell MP for Grimsby put down an Early Day Motion to help us better display support for this issue.
What is an EDM?
Early day motions (EDMs) are formal motions submitted for debate in the House of Commons and they are also used for reasons such as publicising the views of individual MPs, drawing attention to specific events or campaigns, and demonstrating the extent of parliamentary support for a particular cause or point of view. An MP can add their signature to an EDM to show their support and the more support we gain the better our chances of raising the profile of this issue.
How Can You Help?
You can write to your local MP to encourage them to sign the Disposable Nappy EDM and to help you do that we have put together a letter which covers some of the main points about disposable nappy waste and allows you to telll your local story. You can of course send your own letter but the important thing is that your MP signs the EDM. You can check to see if they have signed here.
