Response to BBC One Show

After watching The One Show on June 2nd 2015, I would like to tell you about the wonderful world of modern Cloth Nappies. The interview featured with Valerie Hunter on tonight’s show was by all means interesting; however the only mention of Reusable Nappies came across as rather negative. Modern Reusable Nappies are a world apart from terry nappies that needed to be folded pinned and hand washed. They simply go on baby in the same way a disposable does, fasten up with Velcro or poppers then go in the washing machine every two days. They are better for the environment, baby and the parent’s bank balance.

At Go Real we offer completely independent information about reusable nappies and related products.

Human beings have become accustomed to the single use life, use it, throw it, start again, and repeat. This has to change! Landfill is fast becoming full. With an estimated 813,200 (and rising) babies born in England and Wales each year. Using 3 billion single use nappies - which translates into over 355,000 tonnes of waste produced and an annual disposal cost to local authorities (and tax payers) of £32 million.

And it’s not just landfill that will benefit from the change, but our wider environment as well. Reports have shown that a 40% carbon saving can be made through using reusable nappies compared to using disposables- and yes that includes the washing!

Making the change could also benefit parents bank balance too, depending on their personal nappy choices our calculations show that they could save anywhere from £150 - £1000 and if you use the same nappies for more than one baby your savings will only increase!

We at Go Real ask that the BBC also do a feature on the benefit and ease of use of Reusable / Cloth nappies. We would be more than happy to speak to them or could recommend someone from the UK industry if they would rather.

Kind regards,

Anna Gibson
